Lateral openings
Lateral openings constitute a particular challenge in connection with many renewal projects. Often, they are in a bad shape, some are unused, and they can be very difficult to enter. Over the years, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies has developed methods that ensure tight laterals and lateral openings.
Aarsleff Hat Profile is a sophisticated and thoroughly tested system for installing lateral connection collars. Aarsleff Hat Profile consists of a rim of collar and an extension of collar. Aarsleff Hat Profiles are available in a short edition and in a long edition. Short hat profiles overlap the first joint of the existing laterals. We make long hat profiles in lengths of up to 18 metres.
When installing Aarsleff Hat profiles, we place our equipment above each manhole on the pipe stretch. From a special unit, we pull the tool, on which the hat profile is mounted, along to the lateral that is to be lined. We place the hat profile and fix the rim of collar using a CCTV camera. By means of air pressure, we invert the liner into the lateral. Then, we cure the liner and cut a hole between main pipe and lateral.
Aarsleff Rat Control is Denmark’s only VA approved product for blocking unused sewage pipes. By means of a manhole, we transport an Aarsleff Rat Control to the unused lateral in which it is installed and filled with quickly curing concrete. Aarsleff Rat Control also solves the problem in sewers that end in a discharge in a big sewer or in an overflow chamber as the product can only be installed from one manhole.
When, as an example, we are to renew a lateral that can only be entered from one manhole or when we are to renew a lateral under a building, we use open end CIPP lining. That is a process that requires a great deal of precision and expertise as we are to invert two liners into a defect pipe. And we do that from only one entrance.
