A Dominican experience
In 2003 Aarsleff Pipe Technologies was awarded a turnkey contract for the design and construction of a series of water and wastewater treatment facilities in the city of Santiago in the Dominican Republic. The contract was executed in 36 months and had a value of EUR 17 million.
The project was challenging and included civil, mechanical and electrical works as well as commissioning and testing of all equipment. The project included, among others:
- Construction of 4 pumping stations
- Construction of a new WTP, cap. 86,000 m3/d
- Renewal and construction of existing WTP, cap. 430,000 m3/d
- Renewal and extension of existing WWTP, 365,000 PE
- Control and SCADA works
As an important part of the project we planned and carried out extensive training of both the technical and operational staff. Training, of course, is one of many important keys to securing optimal operation in the long run because we make sure that the local staff is capable of operating and maintaining the facilities. Also, training helps ensure that the all-important knowledge and technology transfer takes place at different organisational levels.
The entire project was carried out according to both Dominican and international norms and standards.
In Santiago, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies worked with a number of local partners who were all dedicated to achieving the best results. People with many different cultural backgrounds were involved in the project. This created an atmosphere of technical curiosity as knowledge and experience were shared freely throughout the contract period.
