It only took 24 hours

In connection with a routine test in 2007, an employee at the Swedish highway authorities discovered that a 28-metre-long DN1100 mm iron pipe running under a road just outside the town of Hudiksvall, was in a very bad shape. Actually, it was in such a bad shape that it was probably only a question of a very short time before the road would be seriously undermined and thus start falling apart. That could put the road users at risk.

Aarsleff Pipe Technologies was given the task of renewing the defect pipe by means of an Aarsleff CIPP Lining which we naturally tailored to the specific job. Before installing the CIPP Lining, we cleaned the pipe and made sure that it had a plane, circular cross section. The installation of the CIPP Lining was carried out by means of water which slowly pressed the CIPP Lining the 28 metres under the road. Subsequently, we used water for curing the CIPP Lining. Finally, we adjusted the pipe at both ends by cutting it. The result was a pipe with the same capacity as the original pipe but now with an expected life of 100 years. The total renewal process took only 24 hours.

We carried out the renewal process from a construction site next to the road, meaning that the many road users experienced no inconvenience in connection with our work. It is worth mentioning that the whole renewal process was carried out without excavating the road at all, which meant huge financial savings to the customer compared to a traditional replacement of the big pipe.
