Renewal in residential building
In the autumn of 2008, the owners’ association Vesterport in Esbjerg contacted Aarsleff Pipe Technologies, as the residents had found leakages in toilet and kitchen downpipes over a number of years. The building is from 1932 and has four storeys. Over the years, there have been a number of changes to the building, such as construction of flats in the attic and conversion of shops into flats. Furthermore, many of the 59 flats have had suspended ceilings.
Based on an in-depth technical report, the residents of the building decided to renew the entire sewer system, including eight toilet downpipes. Parts of the sewer system were in very bad shape due to severe corrosion documented by the preliminary CCTV inspection.
The project comprised internal renewal of toilet and kitchen downpipes by means of Aarsleff CIPP Lining. The project also included renewal of all laterals and hidden drains from floor drains as well as replacement of gully grids and kitchen inlets.
As the building was old, new challenges came up. In connection with the toilet downpipes, one of the big challenges was that some of the connections to the toilets were broken, which had caused leakage. As regards the kitchen downpipes, the big challenge was that several of them were badly damaged. In fact, in some places the kitchen downpipes consisted of only fat residue and rust. Furthermore, the means of access were difficult in general, especially from the top of the downpipes.
We carried out the total renewal project in eight weeks. We renewed eight toilet downpipes, DN100 mm, including a total of 80 laterals for toilet drains and floor drains. In this connection, we also renewed 46 floor drains.
