Renewal in residential building
In 2003, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies renewed 150 kitchen downpipes for the housing association Olufsgaard II. The renewal took place in connection with an extensive renewal of one of the housing association’s buildings. Repeated problems with leakage and blocking of several kitchen downpipes in the building indicated that they had to be renewed.
Due to arbitrary interruptions in connection with a successful renovation of the roof, the position of the board was that renewal of the downpipes should be carried out with minimal inconvenience to the residents.
The kitchen downpipes in the building had an inner dimension of approx. 65 mm. They were approx. 8 metres high and went from the basement – through the ground floor and the first floor – and to the roof vent.
Through constructive dialogue between Aarsleff Pipe Technologies and the board, it was decided to renew two kitchen downpipes in the first place and then assess the need for renewal and decide upon the extent and execution of the work. The work of the first two kitchen downpipes left no doubt that all 150 downpipes were to be renewed, as they were all leaky.
We relined the kitchen downpipes with Aarsleff CIPP Lining from the residents’ basement room and up to the roof vents. The installation took place without removal or demolition of the existing installations and pipe guards.
Renewal was carried out in three phases:
1. Cleaning with water pressure as well as CCTV inspection
2. Renewal work
3. Final TV inspection
We also renewed branches under the kitchen sinks in all the flats and we replaced all of the old water traps. Renewal of a downpipe with branches and water traps was carried out in one day. We renewed up to four kitchen downpipes a day. The total renewal work was carried out in two months.
