309 metres in Virum

In 2008, the cooperative housing association of Skovbakken in Virum faced a renewal of most of its underground sewage pipes. On the basis of preliminary CCTV inspection of a total of 309 metres of pipe, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies prepared a condition assessment to assess the size and condition of the pipe system.

CCTV inspection revealed  that the concrete pipe system was worn out generally. In addition, quite a few pipe cracks as well as open and misaligned joints were revealed. However, the good news was that we could improve the damage on the pipe system by means of Aarsleff CIPP Lining. That is, without excavation and thus without causing any significant inconvenience to residents and surroundings.

On the basis of the condition assessment, we prepared a renewal plan containing all relevant aspects in respect of the upcoming renewal project, including proposed solutions, scope and finances. We submitted the renewal plan to the board of the cooperative housing association who, to a wide extent, decided to follow our recommendations. The board chose to split the project into two stages, so that we renewed approx. half of the pipes in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

First, we cleaned the pipes in question to prepare them for the installation of an Aarsleff CIPP Lining. Cleaning methods included industrial flushing, and we thus removed roots, deposits and other blockages. As usual, this was done with routine CCTV inspection. Finally, we also measured-in active laterals of the pipe system. Once we had concluded this preliminary work, we reported the pipes ready and then we installed an Aarsleff CIPP Lining.

As part of the total project, we also renewed a number of laterals and a number of damaged manhole floors.
