Revelation of great renewal requirement
For several years, the residents of the houseowners’ association Saxoparken in Odense had seen an increase in their expenses for flushing and discharge of sewers and manholes. A CCTV inspection revealed that the pipe system required a thorough renewal. Saxoparken has 330 residential units.
Besides sewer pipes, water pipes were also in bad shape. Residents had gone through problems with local leaks and rising repair expenses. Unifying the work in one contract, so that both water and sewer systems were renewed in one run proved a good idea. The solution was less expensive for the pipe system owners, and residents would only be disturbed once by the contractor’s work.
In 2008, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies was chosen as main contractor and was thus responsible for both, consultancy and management of all subcontracts from excavation to installation of new water mains as well as renewal of sewers and manholes. We, alone, executed the No-Dig renewal of sewer and manholes.
Based on our CCTV inspection, we prepared an estimate of renewal costs and then we calculated the total tender price. Subsequently, the houseowners’ association raised a loan and entered into an agreement with Aarsleff Pipe Technologies ensuring that finances were kept within the fixed amount.
Preliminary investigations were based on CCTV inspection of randomised sections and manholes. This meant several surprises and regular updating of the project planning during execution., There were pipes with major leaks and manholes more severely damaged than expected. These new challenges never turned into any actual problems thanks to a fine and constructive cooperation. Together, the parties continuously found new alternative solutions – within the frame of the fixed loan granted to the houseowners’ association.
