Tight – and tested by the Danish Technological Institute

The Danish Technological Institute has tested Aarsleff Pipe Technologies’ breakthrough technique for renewal of complete downpipe systems. Now we are able to carry out CIPP Lining of even small laterals.
At Aarsleff Pipe Technologies, we clearly see that our customers of the housing and industry market to an increasing extent make demands for both products and working methods.
The products must be flexible and long-lasting. The working methods must consider the environment and people.

Being one of biggest actors in our line of business, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies use significant resources for development projects. One of the latest results of our development work has just been tested by the Danish Technological Institute. It concerns our technique for renewal of complete downpipe systems. Now we are able to reline even small laterals - from DN50 with connection to at least DN75 mm relined downpipes. More specifically, it means that in connection with CIPP Lining of downpipes, we can now also offer CIPP Lining of e.g. a lateral from a toilet downpipe to the toilet and floor drain. The test shows that it is now possible to carry out leakproof CIPP Lining on the complete downpipe systems, including laterals down to DN50 mm. We have carried out leak tests and exposed the material to a heat cycle in order to simulate ageing of the solution. The result is that the system was found to be leak-tight for up to 100 years", says Flemming Springborg, civil engineer of the Danish Technological Institute. In other words, we offer the only product on the Danish market that has been tested in accordance with the European standards EN1610 (tightness) and EN 1055 (simulated ageing).

A downpipe system is not just a downpipe system, but can have many different shapes, and therefore the preparatory work is of great importance to the final result of the renewal process. It is important that we know the requirements for each downpipe before we start CIPP Lining", says Peter Kim Pedersen, head of region of Aarsleff Pipe Technologies. He continues: “For instance, it is important to us to know whether there are particularly aggressive conditions or high variation of temperature in a downpipe”.
When we have examined a downpipe system, we can easily and quickly customise each CIPP lining so that it consists of the specific materials that are best suited for the conditions in question. This flexibility helps to ensure a very high standard of quality, which according to the Danish Technological Institute means a life of up to 100 years.

Cost savings
CIPP Lining of downpipes is a cost-efficient solution compared to traditional replacement of downpipes. For instance, CIPP Lining of downpipes for all flats of one stairway in a block takes approx. 2 to 3 weeks, whereas a traditional replacement takes approx. 6 to 8 weeks. The significantly shorter execution period is of great benefit to residents as well as to the environment. Furthermore, traditional replacement causes inconvenience in the form of demolition of kitchens and toilets, breaking up of floors, replacement of installations, noise and rehousing of residents.
