Pipe Technologies renews cooling
pipe system at nuclear power plant in Russia
Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant is situated 70 kilometres to the west of St Petersburg at the Finnish Gulf. Saltwater from the Gulf is used as cooling water in the reactors. However, the existing pipes had corroded to such an extent that they had to be renewed.
The pipes have been renewed by CIPP Lining during several stages in the past few years. The last stage was carried out from December 2009 to May this year.
The last stage comprised 578 metres of DN 1200 and 8 metres of DN2000 milimetres pipe. The liner was impregnated on the site. In the process, we had to focus on the time schedule, as one of the reactors has to be shut down while we were working.
