From brown coal to Aarsleff Pipe Technologies

Aarsleff Pipe Technologies is a part of Per Aarsleff A/S that was founded in 1947 when Per Aarsleff bought an excavator with his father’s life insurance of DKK 10,000 as collateral and opened his own brown coal field in central Jutland.

Today, Aarsleff Pipe Technologies is an international company with subsidiaries, offices and partners all over the world. Our specialty is No-Dig renewal of pipe systems. We have more than 30 years of experience, and we are one of the leading companies in the world within our field.

The history of Aarsleff Pipe Technologies goes back to the beginning of the 1970s when the management at Per Aarsleff A/S saw potential in establishing new sewer pipes. However, the oil crisis meant that focus shifted to the energy sector for some years.

After the oil crisis, the ideas of working with sewer pipes re-appeared. However, it soon turned out that the best opportunity was renewal of outworn pipe systems. By coincidence, an employee had heard about an English method that made it possible to seal pipes from the inside by inserting a ”sleeve” in a defective pipe. It sounded so exciting that we contacted the English company in Northampton right away.

It turned out that there was a great potential in applying and improving the English product Instituform. At the same time, the English company was very interested in a partnership, and a licence was issued to Per Aarsleff A/S – and we were not asked to provide a bank guarantee in return. The reason for this was that back in 1975, when the owner of the English company was in a military hospital in Hamburg, he had met a Dane who told him that Per Aarsleff A/S was a company to be trusted.

Aarsleff Pipe Technologies carried out the first No-Dig renewal of a 90-m-long sewer pipe between the streets Fredericiagade and Istedgade in Holstebro at the beginning of January 1979.
